Hi
in most of the baby books it says its better for babies to have more naps to sleep better at night.
Just let your baby sleep when he/she wants to.
References :
My sister who had five children (I now have 4) always told me, "Sleep begets sleep". In other words let your child sleep during the day and they become a good sleeper at night.

It is also very true that an overtired child is harder to settle so don't stop the daytime naps if they need them.
References :
It depends on the age of your baby. A youngre baby does need sleep during the day. A toddler doesnt need as much sleep and can affect their sleep pattern during the night. My 8 month old has 2 sleeps and my almost 2 year old still has one sleep and they are both in bed no later than 7.30pm but every child is different
References :
My baby is now 8 months and every since her first day she has to sleep after 2-3 hours in the day. So I let her do so and she sleeps frpm 10:30-11 pm at night to 6:30 - 7 am in morning.

Many mums told me to not let her sleep after 6 pm or in late evening and when I did that she became really tired and rolled off to sleep under the table or anywhere..That was so shameful on my part, so I let her sleep after every 2 -3 hours during the day. And make it a point that she goes to bed before 11 pm daily. No problems so far. Babies have very little stamina, let them sleep as much as they can and they will be happy.
References :
In my experience, I found that I can't make my baby (5 and a half months) nap if he doesn't want to. He only has one nap from 1pm until 2 or 3 pm which is not much BUT it doesn't mean he sleeps badly at nights (he does 8pm til 6am and doesn't usually cry or anything to fall asleep). Just try to find what works for you. Look for signs that your baby is tired during the day (rubbing eyes, being cranky) and put him down if you think he's tired. However, don't let him sleep later than 4pm as it could impact his night and establish a good routine in the evening (we do bath with bathtime Johnsons bubble bath then breastfeed and cuddle).
good luck!

Let Shaun have all the naps he needs. If not you will be left with an over tired and fraught baby that is not able to sleep at night.

PS If you can whilst he has his afternoon nap you have one too. You will feel all the better for it and the washing up can wait !
References :
A newborn will sleep a lot of the time. They usually tend to have a certain time for staying awake. Bad luck if that time happens to be when you want to sleep. I`m not sure you can change the natural pattern of what a newborn wants/needs to do. A slightly older, say 2 to 3 months onward will respond to less sleep say towards middle to late afternoon. then a bath seems to relax them nicely before bed.
Hope this helps.
References :
If you cut back on the naps then your baby could be overtired. Then he/she wont sleep at night.
