How can I overcome emotional eating?

I eat when I am depressed. And this happens a lot. How can I overcome this? Don’t say to just stop doing it. It isn’t that easy.

I used to have a friend who drank when he got depressed. Of course, this turned him into an alcoholic. I got him interested in jogging, and at some point he and I ran a 5K race together. He so much enjoyed it that entering races became a life passion for him. I told him that since he got so much pleasure from it, he should go out for a jog instead of having a drink when he gets depressed. And it worked. He hasn’t had a drink in 12 years.

You could do something similar with food. If you could find some form of physical exercise that you really enjoy, you could go out and do that instead of eating. What I’m suggesting is CREATE A NEW BEHAVIOR PATTERN. One possible scenario…you discover you love swimming laps at the nearby health club. So when you’re depressed, you go to the pool instead of the refrigerator. If you do this often enough you could substitute the new pattern for the old one.

AND…exercise definitely will help you lose or control your weight, not to mention other health benefits.

I’m not saying this is easy. It’s not. But it’s smart. And you’ve done hard things before, so you can certainly do something like this. Wishing you success…

An alternative to smoking for stress relief?

Okay, this is like crazy but I’m addicted to something I’ve never tried before. I don’t smoke but when someone next to me lights up a cig or I walk past someone who’s smoking, I start sucking the stuff in. Inhaling it like mad, craving it like crazy… It instantly makes me feel so much better and happier and more relaxed inside. I don’t want to start smoking, spend so much money, and then spend double that amount trying to quit smoking. It’s unhealthy but I’m starting to have way too many medical problems due to stress. I’ve tried meditating, it works, I like it, but it takes too long. And I’m more of a kinda dance ’til you drop person. Never tried drugs before and I don’t want to either.
Passive smoking is worse than taking it in directly, but both are bad. So what the hell am I supposed to do? Even just one breath of the stuff makes me feel good.

HI, It seems stress is taking its hold. Maybe you should tackle stress directly and see whether you still crave passive smoke.
can you try doing some breathing exercizes? inhale filling your lungs from your nose hold for 5 seconds than release for you mouth as slowly as possible. repeat the exercize for 6 times increasing by 6 secinds each time.
You should do this in a very relaxed position. It will help in reducing your stress levels.

Will I sleep better if I reorganize my room?

It is really bothering me how it isn’t organized how I want.
Will this help my waking up in the middle of the night, and help me sleep better?

It may or may not but either way you will have an organized room and be happy about it. So give it a shot, organize it perfectly, and see what happens. If it doesn’t cure you, exercise before you go to sleep to help release excess energy in your mind that keeps you awake.

Can you use willpower to stop compulsive eating?

I’m an emotional eater and recently I’ve found myself out of control! I am trying to unterstand the underlying causes of my urges to eat. I am wondering from an educated position if it is possible to stop this kind of behavior relying only on willpower.

i really dont think so. I have the same problem and it is so out of control. I used medication for it and it worked for the compulsive eating but made me suicidal so im not sure

What kind of essential oil is good for stress relief?

—-> lavender(relaxes and heals), chamomile(calms overstimulated nerves), and bergamot(relieves stress and nervous tension).

However, everyone is different so different scents may have different effect on people. If the scent is not pleasing to you, then you shouldn’t be using it.
